I love stories.. More specifically, I love mythic stories about difficulty, creativity, awareness, grit & transformation. Since childhood, people have told me these kinds of stories about themselves. When I was a teenager, I became obsessed with astrology. It made perfect sense to me that what we see is only a small part of what is actually going on. The language of the planets & stars connected me to something I knew deep down to be true – that life is meant to be an experience of Soul growth. The natal astrological chart helps us explore ideas about where our Soul has chosen to focus this growth.
In my 20’s & my early 30’s my passion became studying, & then teaching, yoga. Meditation, mantra & de-emphasising the over emphasised mental, linguistic world to create change from the bottom up through asana practice, became important tools for me.
Between 35 & 45 I did more formal academic study in counselling & clinical psychology & talk therapy modalities. For years since completing formal studies, I have worked as a counselling therapist. The three arts – astrology, yoga & therapy – all remained active in my life, but mostly they remained separate. Until 2020. When transiting Neptune made contact with my natal Sun, astrology pushed its way full force into my dreams. At first I was hesitant to overtly bring astrology into my day to day work as a therapist. It is just so broadly misunderstood. I felt I would have to convince people of its legitimacy if I was going to own being an astrologer & a therapist. But it was actually that way of thinking that was the problem. I realised I’m not here to ‘prove’ the legitimacy of anything. My job is to use what is helpful. To support people to authentically connect with themselves & live as close to their Soul’s intent as possible. And to do this in a world that has become so ridiculously noisy with messaging about control & performance. It became clear to me that I’m good at helping people connect things in the world of form & the world of spirit. To do this, I would need one foot in each world.
My stance is this – astrology has existed as a tool for raising consciousness & accelerating growth for a very long time. Like plant medicine, when used properly in a therapeutic way it can open a person up to seeing themselves in a more complete way. It can help them live their life with more presence, passion & courage. It can help give them the clarity they need to get past the habits stopping them from making their unique contributions to the collective.
So now I come to the fullest expression of my work so far – to combine the techniques, intuitions & approaches from astrology, yoga & depth psychology in all my work. To help people stay awake. It has taken a long time to arrive at the intersection of these roads but looking back now, I can see clearly the necessity of the time I have spent walking here & the places I’ve been long the way.
